A strategy based on the analysis of an association between polymorphic microsatellites and osteochondrosis was chosen to identify osteochondrosis predisposition markers in horses. On the one hand, it requires a panel of horses with and without osteochondrosis and, on the other hand, it is necessary to produce a set of polymorphic microsatellites uniformly distributed on the equine genome and then to genotype these animals with these markers. Two hundred and seventy-three horse BAC clones were retrieved and gene identities were identified and were localized on the RH and cytogenetic maps.
