This thesis regards thirteenth- and fourteenth-century translations of authoritative texts from Latin into Vernacular, with special attention to French. The late middle ages has indeed seen an increasing number of translations of academic texts into these languages traditionally associated with the lays and illiterate people. These translations, taken together, offer a coherent corpus, centered on the medieval auctoritates and using the very same topoi on translation, and are thus considered here as a specific movement in the history of translation.
