Ce travail est consacré à l'influence de la température sur l'hydratation du ciment Portland entre 5 et 45C. Les effets de la température sur l'évolution de la résistance à la compression ont été corrélés au degré d'hydratation et à la microstructure des hydrates. On montre que l'origine des effets de la température est liée à l'hydratation du silicate tricalcique du ciment (C3S). L'hydratation initiale de C3S est d autant plus rapide que la température est élevée mais elle est plus ralentie dès que l'hydratation est limitée par la diffusion de l eau et des ions à travers la couche d hydrates (C-S-H) formée autour des grains au jeune âge.
