Declarative modelling allows the designer to describe a scene, without the need to define the geometric properties, by specifying its properties which can be imprecise and incomplete. Declarative modelling by hierarchical decomposition is a special approach which gives the user the ability to describe a scene by top-down decomposition at different levels of detail. The MultiCAD system architecture implements the declarative modelling by hierarchical decomposition, accepting a declarative description, generating a set of geometric solutions that meet the description and visualizing the solutions through a geometric modeller.
