Afin de découvrir de nouveaux antipaludiques, un inventaire des plantes utilisées en médecine traditionnelle dans le sud du Vietnam a été réalisé, et une sélection ethnopharmacologique a été effectuée. Des 55 échantillons récoltés, 220 extraits ont été obtenus et évalués pour leur activité sur P. falciparum et leur toxicité sur les cellules humaines. Leur criblage a permis de sélectionner 9 plantes fortement antiplasmodiques et peu ou pas cytotoxiques.
