Das Ziel dieser Arbeit besteht darin, Michel Foucaults Konzept der Genealogie kurz darzustellen. Dazu lokalisieren wir dieses Konzept in einem größeren Kontext, der einige epistemologische Debatten um die Möglichkeit der historischen Erkenntnis enthält. Wie werden einige der grundlegendesten Argumenten erwähnen, die traditionell gegen diese Möglichkeit geführt worden sind. Genealogie wird dann als eine historische Methode presentiert, die die zitierte Argumente in einer kritischen Weise behandelt.
