Le problème de l'histoire chez Michel Foucault

How can philosophy think its outside? What is the limit between philosophy and non-philosophy? The Hegelian philosophy tried to answer those questions by setting up a philosophic totality through dialectics and a certain philosophic way of thinking history. Our goal is to consider this relation between philosophy and non-philosophy that clearly appears in the thought of Michel Foucault, which seeks, all along its course, to free itself from the Hegelian philosophy of totality and of history, by carrying out various historical investigations. For Foucault, the main point is to call into question the naturality of objects, such as madness, crime and sexuality. Foucault constantly brings to light the multiplicity of the empirical forms of objectivation, and of subjection or subjectivation as well, inasmuch as a proliferation of histories goes against Hegel s dialectical totality of history. As this discharge never ends once and for all, the Foucauldian thought becomes a set of attempts in order to philosophize in the non-philosophy that is history. Being against Hegel always involves thinking with him. Our analysis aims at understanding the Foucauldian efforts, by following their unfolding in the three periods that are the archaeology, the genealogy and the problematisation, and to show how they are formed and transformed around the theme of history, by a series of sometimes very minor changes. In this sense, the thought of Michel Foucault is an examination of philosophy itself facing non-philosophy.Comment la philosophie peut-elle penser son dehors, qu est la non-philosophie ? Quelle est la limite entre la philosophie et ce qui lui est extérieur ? La philosophie hégélienne a tenté de répondre à ces questions par l établissement d une totalité philosophique au travers de la dialectique et d une certaine manière philosophique de penser l histoire. Notre travail a pour objectif de réfléchir sur ce rapport de la philosophie à la non-philosophie, apparu de façon éminente dans la pensée de Michel Foucault, qui cherche, tout le long de son parcours, à se déprendre de cette philosophie de la totalité et de l histoire, tout en menant diverses enquêtes historiques. Il s agit pour lui de mettre en doute la naturalité des objets, tels la folie, la délinquance, la sexualité. Foucault fait ainsi sans cesse surgir la multiplicité des formes empiriques d objectivation, ainsi que celles d assujettissement ou de subjectivation, car cette prolifération des histoires s oppose à la totalité dialectique de l histoire. Comme la déprise ne s achève jamais une fois pour toutes, la pensée foucaldienne devient un ensemble d essais pour philosopher dans le non-philosophique qu est l histoire. Penser contre Hegel implique toujours penser avec lui. Notre analyse vise à éclairer ces efforts foucaldiens, en suivant leur déroulement dans les trois périodes, à savoir l archéologie, la généalogie et la problématisation, pour montrer comment ces époques se forment et se transforment autour du thème de l histoire, par une série de déplacements parfois très minimes.
