Le microscope à force atomique (AFM) fait partie des microscopies de champ proche dites à sonde locale. De par sa versatilité, un grand nombre de domaines des nanosciences tant en physique, que chimie ou biologie utilisent cette technique. Cependant, le champ d investigation de la microscopie AFM classique est restreint temporellement et spatialement. En effet, en raison de sa limite de vitesse d acquisition d image et sa limite de caractérisation des interactions en surface, des études de dynamique moléculaire ou d éléments sub-surface ne sont pas envisageables.
