In this work the catalytic reduction of nitrates in water was investigated in various types of reactors (slurry, photocatalytic and membrane). The effective catalyst for this reduction is a bimetallic catalyst, comprised of a noble metal such as Pd associated with a metal promoter such as Cu. This catalyst deposited on TiO2 powder was studied in a conventional slurry reactor and showed a catalytic activity comparable with literature results. Higher performances were obtained by photocataysis when the same reactor was irradiated withe UV light.
