Endothelial progenitor cells (EPC) are bone-marrow derived circulating cells participating in angiogenesis and vascular homeostasis. Reduced numbers of circulating EPC are observed in patients with various cardiovascular diseases and are related to an increased risk for future cardiovascular events and death.
