Eukaryotic cells use a range of mechanisms to ensure that a full complement of each organelle is maintained during cell division. In S.cerevisiae cells, the maintenance of peroxisomes requires the growth, division and accurate segregation of existing peroxisomes. Alternatively, peroxisomes can be formed de novo from the ER.
