In modem global politics, having a constitutional monarchy is in the minority and is perhaps in decline. However, Britain and Japan do not follow this trend. Their respective monarchy and Emperorship remain powerful. Although these do not hold political power constitutionally, they maintain a moral influence on their societies. This thesis explores and compares two constitutional monarchies - the UK in the west and Japan in the Far East - to analyse how they have survived long histories. To do this, it uses the methodologies of path dependency and historical institutionalism.EThOS - Electronic Theses Online ServiceGBUnited Kingdo
