Although Northern Irish society looks similar to its counterparts in Great Britain and the Republic of Ireland, it is codified quite differently. With the signing of the Good Friday Agreement and the cessation of paramilitary violence, politicians and other concerned parties have been trying to move Northern Ireland towards a more normal state of existence. This process is largely discussed as the process of 'normalisation'. Key to normalising Northern Irish society is an understanding of the way in which it is codified.
