Free radical polymerisation of vinyl monomers has been widely used over the years in industry to prepare high molecular weight polymers. More recently, reactions involving transition metal catalysts have been investigated in order to operate under milder conditions and enhance the physical and mechanical properties of the final material. In this report, we present the free radical redox polymerisation of 4-methylstyrene used in the manufacture of glass-reinforced plastic.
