Background:. Neutrophils play a central role in inflammatory disease. Since neutrophil apoptosis is essential for the resolution of inflammation, understanding the mechanisms regulating this process in vivo are important, as is the potential to drive apoptosis using appropriate pro-apoptotic stimuli. Our group previously showed that a death receptor ligand, TRAIL (TNF-related apoptosis inducing ligand), accelerates neutrophil apoptosis in vitro without associated cell activation. This thesis examines the role of TRAIL in inflammation in vivo.EThOS - Electronic Theses Online ServiceGBUnited Kingdo
