For fans with a rotor confined by a casing, such as encountered in turbomachinery, the spacing between the blade tips and the casing wall is referred to as gap or tip clearance. Complex flows take place in this region that contributes to the overall sound generation of the fan. The objective of the present study is on one hand to improve the understanding of tip leakage flow and its associated broadband noise. On the other hand, efforts are put towards tip leakage broadband noise prediction. The literature review reveals the influence of the gap size onto the flow is highlighted. A experiment carried out on a simplified configuration, which consists of a single non rotating blade with tunable incidence and gap, is presented. A parametric st...
