International audienceThe creation of firms and its territorial relationships. The issue of the creation of firms and its territorial relationships has interested regional economists for over twenty years. One particular topic has received special attention, namely what are the factors explaining regional variation in firm formation rates. An explanatory framework has been built gradually involving contributions from other fields of economics, in particular from labour, industrial and spatial economics, with for example arguments relating to occupational choice including self-employment, competition and multiplier effect, or agglomeration economies.
