In order to investigate further the mode of action of these compounds, synthesis of proteomic probes was attempted. Synthetic design and attempts are presented chapter VII. To establish whether there was 24-SMT present in the blood stream form of T. b. brucei, a Northern blot was carried out. This confirmed transcription of the enzyme which was then cloned, over expressed and purified (Chapter VIII).
