The Ising model was suggested by Lenz in 1920. It is a probabilistic model for ferromagnetism. Magnetization can then be explored as correlation between spin random variables on a graph. Bond percolation was introduced by Simon Broadbent and John Hammersley in 1957. It is a model for long range order. Edges of a lattice graph are declared open, independently, with some probability p, and clusters of open edges are studied. Both these models can be understood as aspects of the random-cluster model.
