International audienceThis paper reviews the history of the publication of Elsa Morante's short stories, from the very first publications scattered through several journals and magazines to the posthumous publications, and in the middle two collections by the author herself: "Il gioco segreto" ("The secret game") (1941) and "Lo scialle andaluso" ("The andalusian shawl") (1963). This reveals the author's uncompromising strategy in which she tried to disguise her juvenile attempts, a list of which is included in the references along with any re-found work.
