« Patrimoines naturels, socio-économiques et culturels des sociétés insulaires de la Caraïbe : quel avenir ? ».

International audienceThe third edition of the multidisciplinary Scientific Study Day (JES 2017) of the ADJC association invites us to question about the heritage of the island societies of the Caribbean region. With the challenges facing them, how will their future be in the coming decades?At first sight, the term ‘heritage’ refers to the notion of a transmission of material goods. Nevertheless, this definition has developed over time and, nowadays, includes not only physical objects but also elements which are of an intangible nature (landscapes, traditions, languages, gastronomy, etc.). Two major categories appear: the natural heritage and the cultural heritage (Fourcade, 2007; Le Hégarat, 2015). More and more studies are interested in the natural and cultural resources related to the heritage of the island territories (Kesteloot, 2001; Abenon et al., 2002; Bardolph, 2002; Furlong, 2009; Zanoaga, 2012; Sainton et al., 2013; Joseph et al., 2018).Consider the diversity of the heritage in the scientific research becomes urgent to define better the future of our island societies that have undeniable natural and cultural wealth and to act accordingly. The researcher does not have to position any more as an observer of past, preservative and protective, but as an actor proposing alternative strategies to improve community life (Bluestone, 2000; Battiste, 2007; Silverman and Ruggles, 2007).La troisième édition de la Journée d’Étude Scientifique pluridisciplinaire de l’ADJC (JES 2017) invite à réfléchir sur les héritages patrimoniaux des sociétés insulaires de la Caraïbe. Face aux défis auxquels elles sont confrontées, quel avenir se dessine alors pour elles dans les prochaines décennies ?De prime abord, le terme « patrimoine » renvoie à la notion de transmission de biens matériels. Néanmoins, cette définition a évolué au cours du temps et recouvre dorénavant aussi bien des objets physiques que des éléments de l’ordre de l’immatériel (paysages, traditions, langues, gastronomie, etc.). Ainsi, deux grandes catégories émergent : le patrimoine naturel et le patrimoine culturel (Fourcade, 2007 ; Le Hégarat, 2015). De plus en plus d’études s’intéressent aux ressources naturelles et culturelles relatives au patrimoine des territoires insulaires (Kesteloot, 2001 ; Abenon et al., 2002 ; Bardolph, 2002 ; Furlong, 2009 ; Zanoaga, 2012 ; Sainton et al., 2013 ; Joseph et al., 2018).Prendre en compte la diversité des Patrimoines dans la recherche scientifique devient urgent afin de mieux définir le devenir de nos sociétés insulaires qui présentent des richesses naturelles et culturelles indéniables et d’agir en conséquence. Le chercheur ne doit plus se positionner comme un observateur du passé, conservateur et protecteur, mais comme un acteur proposant des stratégies alternatives pour améliorer le vivre ensemble (Bluestone, 2000 ; Battiste, 2007 ; Silverman et Ruggles, 2007)
