L'action mitigée des Cancéropôles : les raisons de l'abandon d'une politique biomédicale ambitieuse

This article examines the new organizations in cancer research in France called cancéropôles and created in 2003, whose mission is to coordinate actors from industry, research and clinical fields. Our research is based on a study of cancéropôles which embraces an evolutionary perspective on cluster formation and development. Our analysis reveals that although clear differences exist between them, our sample of the three established Cancéropôles display similar patterns of unsuccessful cases. Eventually, the identification of mechanisms that reduce their action in the cancer research environment raises questions about the factors that may influence any public action to a reconfiguration of the French biomedical sector.Créés dans le cadre du plan cancer 2003-2007, les cancéropôles doivent faciliter et accroître les interactions entre les chercheurs scientifiques, les cliniciens, les représentants des industries pharmaceutiques et les entreprises de biotechnologie. L’analyse longitudinale de trois cancéropôles couplée à une enquête ponctuelle sur la totalité des sept cancéropôles révèle une action structurante limitée sur l’environnement de la recherche en cancérologie. Au final, l’identification des facteurs ayant entravé l’ambition des cancéropôles conduit à s’interroger sur les facteurs susceptibles d’infléchir toute action publique visant une reconfiguration du secteur biomédical français
