Because it represents a sphere of activity where our relationships with the world we dwell in are locally put to practice, farming has become a central place where new political claims emerge. Using participant observation, this paper studies a grassroots movement in the USA, which helps the veterans from Iraq or Afghanistan (some of them suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder) reinvent themselves as organic farmers. Especially focusing on the women veterans of the group, the paper shows how they express a social critique that combines aspirations for self-fulfillment (overcoming PTSD, searching for « the good life ») with broader moral concerns (environmental and pacifist statements).Cet article traite de la manière dont l’agricultu...
