The Seine River downstream from Paris receives the effluent of Achères wastewater treatment plant, which is poorly nitrified. Its ammonia load is completely nitrified in the Seine Estuary. The contribution of the main WWTP of the Parisian metropolitan area to the seeding of the Seine River in AOB, was studied in lab scale reactors. It appears that these bacteria are abundant in the Achères WWTP effluent in spit of its high F/M ratio. However, they seam less effective to oxidize ammonia than AOB from nitrifying WWTP as Valenton.
