Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a chronic, progressive and deadly lung disease characterized by a usual interstitial pneumonia (UIP) pattern associating fibrotic remodeling. This fibrotic process is related to repeated micro-injuries on alveolar epithelium leading to alveolar epithelial cells (AECs) dysfunction.
