This thesis provides an insight into the effects of dance as an empowering practice for the participants – in this case migrant women – and what meaning this has for society. Through an exploration of embodiment and corporeality I emphasize the need of a (re-)integration of body and mind and a re-valuation of the body and its possibilities in the process of becoming empowered; and how dance can create this. I will thereby go into the different levels in which the body can be perceived and the different levels in which empowerment can be achieved through the practice of dance.
