Preposition stranding and functional projections: some facts from acquisition

This thesis treats some cases in the first language acquisition of PPs in Dutch. These cases were discovered while doing a corpus study. We will focus on three phenomena, use existing theories to discuss them and try to combine those theories to try to arrive at an overall theory. The three phenomena concern preposition stranding, the use of r-pronouns and preposition doubling. At the end of the thesis we will conclude that some of the theories we use to discuss the three phenomena might be able to explain one or two of them, but none of can explain all. This will be shown to be a serious issue for the theories concerned and for theories on the structure of the PP in general. We will explore some options, but will not attempt to solve the problem
