Bienveillance et éducation : quelle théorie ?

International audienceThe aim of this article is to question philosophically the term of « kindness », which is more and more often used and institutionalised within the education spheres. Behind the apparent simplicity of the concept, and the eventual facility of talking about benevolent education and parenthood, there seems to be a certain notional blur which could interfere with the intercomprehension within an educational community. Combining authority and kindness, be it in theory or in practice, requires to fully understand the stakes of those two notions, which can be considered as meta-educational (likely to enrich the whole educational relationships in one way or another). First, we evidence kindness does not mean weakness nor complacency nor soft domination, though those notions are often assimilated (part 1). Then, the idea is to address what kindness is not limited to, and why it is judicious not to assimilate it to simple care (part 2). Contrarily, it seems relevant to propose a wide acceptation and stabilised definition of kindness (part 3), together with a certain ethics for the daily appropriation of this idea as part of the educational activities.Cet article vise à interroger philosophiquement le terme de « bienveillance », lequel connaît un emploi et une institutionnalisation croissants au sein des sphères éducatives. Derrière l’apparente simplicité du concept et la facilité qu’il y aurait à parler d’éducation et de parentalité bienveillantes, il semble y avoir un certain flou notionnel pouvant nuire à l’intercompréhension au sein d’une communauté éducative. Articuler autorité et bienveillance en théorie comme en pratique impose de saisir pleinement les enjeux de ces deux notions que l’on peut qualifier de méta-éducatives (qui peuvent irriguer l’ensemble des relations éducatives d’une manière ou d’une autre). Une première partie vise à montrer ce que la bienveillance n’est pas (faiblesse, complaisance, domination douce) bien qu’elle y soit parfois assimilée. Il s’agit ensuite de montrer ce que la bienveillance ne se contente pas d’être (partie 2), et pourquoi il paraît judicieux de ne pas l’assimiler simplement au care. Il semble au contraire pertinent de proposer une acception large et une définition stabilisée de la bienveillance (partie 3), doublée d’une éthique de l’appropriation quotidienne de cette notion dans les pratiques éducatives
