Structuration de la vie de laboratoire en géographie théorique et quantitative : les mémoires de l'équipe P.A.R.I.S.

International audienceUsing a interviews corpus of geographers from the theoretical and quantitative movement, this paper analyses how a team, the P.A.R.I.S. one, was progressively built as a proper laboratory. In an historical and spatial approach, its shows how the life of this laboratory is organized. This team was a major one in the general movement of the theoretical and quantitative geography in France from the beginning of the 1960's. It specifically renewed the urban studies, thanks to the quantitative and theoretical approaches. This team is compared to another one, the Dupont's group, who was also a major team in that movement, but differently organized. The focalization on one team, occasionnally compared to others, shows specific ways ot built a laboratory life. This paper pays a particular attention to the sociological, epistemological and spatial ways of its organization. On one hand, P.A.R.I.S. is a laboratory based in Paris but which includs a large number of women and young people. On the other hand, the Dupont's group is based in the South-East of France, it is more informal and mostly composed of men. In a period starting in the 1960's until today, this paper shows three moments of the construction of a laboratory in urban studies. Each moment participates to the institution of P.A.R.I.S. as a proper research's group.En partant d'un corpus d'entretiens des acteurs de la géographie théorique et quantitative (1960-2010), cet article propose d'analyser les vies de laboratoire d'un cas particulier, dans une analyse historique et spatiale du développement de l'équipe P.A.R.I.S. Elle a été motrice dans le développement de la géographie théorique et quantitative à partir des années 1960-1970 et a en particulier renouvelé l'approche des études urbaines en géographie. Cette équipe sera mise en regard d'un autre « laboratoire », le groupe Dupont. La focalisation sur une équipe, P.A.R.I.S., comparée à d'autres groupes, donne à voir des vies de laboratoires, en considérant les modalités de sa structuration d'un point de vue spatial, épistémologique mais aussi sociologique. D'un côté, P.A.R.I.S., un laboratoire parisien, féminisé ; de l'autre, le groupe Dupont, un réseau informel et contestataire de chercheurs du Sud-Est de la France. Sur une période allant des années 1960 à nos jours, nous mettons en lumière l'existence de trois moments distincts, depuis l'entrée difficile et progressive dans l'institution et l'affirmation de jeunes géographes urbains bravant l'orthodoxie jusqu'à la reproduction d'un cœur de connaissances à l'intérieur de laboratoires structurés et reconnus dans le champ disciplinaire
