International audienceWe employ a novel methodology to simulate the irradiation of Sodium cooled Fast Reactors (SFR) subassemblies. The proposed approach allows considering the coupling between key thermal–hydraulic and thermomechanical phenomena, which is usually neglected in traditional simulation methods. Comparisons between results obtained from coupled and uncoupled methodologies show that the latter can significantly over predict the stresses and the strains of highly irradiated fuel bundles. Additionally, we explore different options for the pin mechanical modeling.
