Objective: Acetaminophen overdose has been associated with severe hepatic necrosis leading to acute liver failure. Preclinical data suggest that the transplantation of mesenchymal stem cells, a population of multi-potent cells that exhibit great capacities for tissue repair, can improve hepatic injury. Materials and Methods: Acetaminophen was used to induce liver injury in 32 Wistar rats. Adipose tissue mesenchymal stem cells were transplanted via the portal vein or intrahepatic route directly onto the liver parenchyma.
