New radio acoustic sounding system (RASS) proposed and planned by the present authorsis described. RASS is one of remote sensing techniques and is able to provide temperatureprofile of the lower troposphere. The system proposed in the present paper is a combinationof a S-band pulse radar and a frequency-controlled acoustic pulse transmitter and enables todetect the temperature profile by comparing received power radio signal from each acousticwave front without Doppler analyses. This system needs rather high acoustic frequency, and the height range is limited to a several hundred meters.New radio acoustic sounding system (RASS) proposed and planned by the present authorsis described.
