Earthquake response of structures was interested to clarify the importance of restor-ing force characteristics in relation to the pattern of ground motions. The structureswere simplified and idealized into one-degree-of-freedom systems having restoring forcecharacteristics of Masing as well as slip model types. Discussions on Masing's andthe slip type mechanical models were made in this paper.
