Ladies, power and diplomacy in the seventeenth century: Antonia de Luna, Luisa de Ayala and María Teresa Ronquillo

Three ladies and three families will help us recreate the role of elite women in the court of the Spanish Habsburgs in the period comprised between Philip IV’s reign and the regency of his wife, Mariana of Austria. We take the lives of three women who started their careers at palace and linked their life paths with the diplomatic career of their relatives. When young, the three women were ladies-in-waiting of Queen Mariana of Austria when she was queen consort and later when she was queen regent. We analyse the role they played in the life courses of their noble houses and in the careers of the rest of their family members.Tres damas y tres familias nos sirven para recrear el papel de estas mujeres de la élite en la corte de los Austrias entre el reinado de Felipe IV y la regencia de su esposa, Mariana de Austria. Tomamos las vidas de estas tres figuras femeninas que iniciaron su trayectoria en palacio y que enlazaron su itinerario vital con la carrera diplomática de sus familiares. Las tres fueron en su juventud damas de la reina Mariana de Austria, en los diferentes periodos como reina consorte y más tarde como regente. Analizamos el papel que jugaron en la trayectoria de sus casas y en la carrera de los otros miembros de sus familia
