National audienceIn marly torrential catchments in the French southern Alps, vegetation can play a very efficient role against erosion. Thus, little knowledge existed on sediment trapping processes by vegetation barriers. The study, with sites located in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence department, was aimed to better understand these processes. We tried to highlight the existence of marly sediment trapping processes by vegetation barriers, and to carry out a quantitative study on the effectiveness of vegetation barriers to trap the sediments coming from an eroded zone.
