Intérêt des images à très haute résolution spatiale pour évaluer le risque d'inondation

To process these thin resolution images, the most efficient approaches are not based on automatic classification any more but on computer assisted photointerpration. This paper presents two applications which illustrate the potential of these images in the case of flood risk. The first one is related to the vulnerability : the useful objects for management are first classified into 3 hierarchical levels, in order to better compare the interest of VHRS images with the existing geographical data bases and the intermediate resolution images. The second one deals with the characterization of the flood phenomenon through an original use of aerial photographs to obtain the water height for any flooded point. That constitutes a quantitative valorization under GIS of aerial photographs archives and soon, of VHSR satellite images.La télédétection à très haute résolution spatiale (THRS) apporte dans les études environnementales la vision des objets de taille humaine. Avec ces résolutions fines, les traitements d'images ne relèvent plus des classifications automatiques mais se rapportent davantage aux techniques de photo-interprétation. Deux applications du potentiel de ces données images sont présentées dans le cas du risque d'inondation. L'une concerne l'étude de la vulnérabilité : après avoir classé les enjeux soumis au risque en trois niveaux d'observation, l'intérêt des images THRS apparaît en complément des bases de données géographiques existantes et des images à moyenne résolution. L'autre caractérise l'aléa inondation, à travers une utilisation originale de photographies aériennes en période de crue pour définir la hauteur d'eau en tout point inondé. Ceci constitue une valorisation quantitative d'archives de photographies sous SIG, la méthode pouvant, à terme, être adaptée à l'utilisation de données THRS satellitaires
