We developed an index of chronic toxicity of effluents for use within French watersheds. It was designed in order to reflect the consensus of expert judgements on the toxicity of a set of 30 effluents. This paper describe the methodology used and the results obtained in this work. Comparison with the Canadian index (PEEP) is also given.Une trentaine d'effluents ont été testés quant à leur écotoxicité et génotoxité à l'aide de 8 bioessais.
