Although questions about definitions of love and friendship come up frequently in children’s discussions, little is known about how girls and boys aged 6 to 11 years old perceive these two feelings and how they distinguish between them. Based on an ethnographic survey and a field questionnaire, the article emphasizes that most children know how to differentiate between love and friendship from an early age : while love is a feeling perceived as feminine and heterosexual, friendship appears as something mainly homogamous and genderneutral.
