Synchrotrons use a variety of mirrors for reshaping or redirecting X-ray beams. The mirrors can have lengths up to 1.5 m and surface figure errors below 1 nm. Characterization of these mirrors requires advanced metrology tools. More commonly used instruments are Long Trace Profilers (LTP), Nanometer Optical Component Measuring Machines (NOM), Fizeau interferometers and Micro interferometers. The Stitching Shack-Hartmann wavefront sensor (SHARPeR) is a novel 2D slope measuring instrument developed as an integrated commercial product by Imagine Optic and Q-Sys, and uses subaperture stitching algorithms to measure synchrotron mirrors.
