The context of this thesis is the improvement of road safety through the development of active safety systems. One challenge in the development of active safety systems is obtaining accurate information about unmeasurable vehicle dynamic states. Specifically, the necessity to estimate the vertical load, frictional forces at each wheel (longitudinal and lateral), and also the sideslip angle at the center of gravity. These states are the critical parameters for optimizing the control of a vehicle’s stability. If the vertical load on each tire can be estimated, then the risk of rollover can be evaluated.
