The dataset includes computed snow water equivalent (SWE) in mm and depth (m) of the snowpack for MOSAiC leg 1 - 3, derived from SnowMicroPen (SMP) penetration force signals. The data origins from the devices SMP49 and SMP31 that have been used during MOSAiC leg 1 - 3. In a first step, force signal measurements that are known to be incorrect or that are known to be related to device function tests, have been discarded. In a second step, the snow surface was detected in the force signal and the signal located vertically above the surface has been discarded for each measurement. The snow depth was determined by where the SMP stopped measuring, i.e. at a depth where the overload signal of 41 N (SMP49) or 40 N (SMP31), was reached, respectively...
