O investimento direto externo espanhol no Brasil e as relações hispano-brasileiras (1995-2005)

In the context of globalization, the Spanish foreign direct investment (FDI) in Brazil, from the mid-1990s, constituted the predominant theme in the Spanish -Brazilian bilateral agenda. This article analyzes the Brazil-Spain's relations and the interaction between the actors involved (governments and companies) in this process, in the period 1995-2005. Initially, conceptualizes the IDE, approachs the recent theory that best explains the Spanish production of goods and services abroad and quantifies the Spanish investment in Brazil (in the period under review). From a historical-descriptive perspective, discusses briefly the Hispano-Brazilian relations, from the 1970s, and policies implemented in both countries that favored the expansion of FDI and the entry of the Spanish investment in Brazil. It is inferred that the entry of Spanish FDI in Brazil since the mid-1990s, became a vector for change in the Spanish-Brazilian relations, showing a remarkably caracter economical, at least until 2004.En el contexto de la globalización, la inversión extranjera directa (IED) de España en Brasil, desde mediados de la década de 1990, constituyó tema predominante en la agenda bilateral hispano-brasileña. Este artículo analiza las relaciones entre Brasil y España y la interacción entre los actores implicados (gobiernos y empresas) en este proceso, 1995-2005. Inicialmente, conceptualiza el IDE, aborda la reciente teoría que mejor explica la producción española de bienes y servicios en el extranjero y cuantifica la inversión española en Brasil (en el período en análisis). Desde una perspectiva histórica y descriptiva, discute las relaciones hispano-brasileñas, desde la década de 1970, y las políticas aplicadas en los dos países que favorecieron la expansión de la IED de España y la entrada de la inversión española en Brasil. Se infiere que el ingreso de la IED española en Brasil desde mediados de la década de 1990, se convirtió en un vector de cambio en las relaciones hispano-brasileño, con un carácter notablemente económico, por lo menos hasta 2004
