Genre and gender: ossianic poetry from oral tradition to national epic and lyrical drama

The editorial history of these epic poems and their reception abroad emphasize translation. In this essay I want to concentrate on the ‘voice’ of women translators, implicit genre and gender expectations and on some aspects of transmediation.
