The development of a superior feed channel spacer is one among the problems that have to be resolved to effectively mitigate foulant accumulation in the membrane system and improve filtration performance. In view of this, a novel honeycomb-shaped spacer, whose hexagonal form is the most stable and economical structure observed in nature, is proposed. 3D printing enables us to manufacture the honeycomb-shape spacer. Then, the performance of such spacer is demonstrated by comparing its filtration results with those of a standard diamond-shaped spacer in nanofiltration.
