Glavni cilj istraživanja bio je utvrditi valjanost subjektivne procjene opterećenja treninga (SPOt), kao mjere trenažnog opterećenja, u odnosu na Edwardsovo trenažno opterećenje (Edwardsovo TO) i Banisterov trenažni impuls (Banisterov TRIMP), u karate disciplini kata. Istraživanje je provedeno na 8 reprezentativaca u katama, koji su prvo proveli progresivni test opterećenja (Beep test) kako bi se utvrdila maksimalna frekvencija srca. Zatim su, tijekom sljedeća tri tjedna provedena tri različita tipa karate treninga, i to situacijski, specifični i tehnički kata trening.
