PHENOLIC COMPOUNDS, ANTIOXIDANT AND ANTIBACTERIAL PROPERTIES OF SKIN EXTRACTS FROM TEN DIFFERENT ARMENIA – GROWN GRAPE VARIETIES

Vinova loza (Vitis vinifera L.) višegodišnja je penjačica čiji plodovi pokazuju veliku sposobnost antioksidacijskog, antibakterijskog i antifungalnog djelovanja. Zahvaljujući bogatstvu sekundarnim biljnim metabolitima – fenolnim spojevima pripravci grožđa štite organizam od napada patogenih bakterija, ali i stanice od štetnog djelovanja slobodnih radikala u oksidativnom stresu. Stoga je cilj ovoga istraživanja bio eksperimentalno utvrditi ukupan sadržaj fenola, ukupnu antioksidacijsku te antibakterijsku aktivnost ekstrakata pokožica grožđa deset različitih, autohtonih, armenskih sorti. Ovim istraživanjem utvrđeni su viši sadržaji ukupnih fenolnih spojeva u pokožicama crnih u odnosu na pokožice bijelih sorti grožđa. Utvrđena je dobra povezanost između ukupnog sadržaja fenola i antioksidacijske aktivnosti. Najbolje antibakterijsko djelovanje protiv patogenih bakterija pokazala je crna sorta Armenia.The grapevine (Vitis vinifera L.) is a perennial climber whose fruits show a great ability of antioxidant, antibacterial and antifungal action. Thanks to the richness of secondary plant metabolites - phenolic compounds, grape preparations protects the human body from attacks by pathogenic bacteria, but also cells from the harmful effects of free radicals in oxidative stress. Therefore, the aim of this study was to experimentally determine the total phenol content, total antioxidant and antibacterial activity of grape skin extracts of ten different, indigenous, Armenian varieties. This study demonstrated higher content of phenolic compounds in the skins of black grape varieties than white ones. A good correlation was found between total phenol content and antioxidant activity. The black variety Armenia showed the best antibacterial activity against human pathogenic bacteria
