Can football clubs buy success? Examining the relationship between transfer market spending and subsequent placement in the league table

This bachelor thesis investigates the influence of transfer spending on league positions of clubs playing in the Premier League. This influence is examined through regression analysis with the data from the seasons 2013/14 to 2017/18. By buying new players, clubs can refine their squads and might improve their league performances. Findings of this paper, however, suggest that wage is the main determinant of club’s performances and their subsequent league standings.Tato bakalářská práce zkoumá vliv útraty na přestupovém trhu na ligové pozici týmů hrajících v Premier League. Tento vliv je zkoumán regresní analýzou na datech mezi sezonami 2013/14 a 2017/18. Díky nákupům na trhu hráčů kluby vylepšují své stávající soupisky a mohou vylepšit své výkony v lize. Výsledky této práce však naznačují, že navzdory vlivu přestupových částek, jsou mzdy hlavním determinantem výkonů klubů a jejich následných umístěních v lize
