The aim of this thesis is to examine contemporary Stoicism, as it appears in philosophical self-improvement books written by the three modern Stoics Massimo Pigliucci, William B. Irvine and Donald Robertson. The question is how Stoicism is portrayed as a philosophy of life and how the authors argue for the relevance of Stoicism today. The theoretical framework used in this study is based on the understanding of Stoicism as a philosophy of life (sw. livsåskådning). Mainly the work of Carl Reinhold Bråkenhielm, Katarina Westerlund and Maria Essunger is utilized to apply an understanding of the term containing both theoretical doctrines and practical teachings.
