There is a portrait photograph of him as well.Born at a YMCA community for Japanese immigrants, Fred Hoshiyama lived his entire life in association with the YMCA. He served as the Boys’ Work secretary at the San Francisco (Calif.) Japanese YMCA Branch. In 1942, he was interred at the Government Internment Camp in Utah, where he helped to create YMCA-based programs to help address the social, educational, and recreational needs of the Japanese-Americans held in the camp. An offer to study at Springfield College provided Hoshiyama with an early release from the camp.
