Full exterior view of Maine Historical Society\u27s Center for Maine History, 489 Congress Street, from south. The building was originally that of Day\u27s Jewelry Store (1927-1972), then The Curtainshop (1977-1986), and had recently been home to First New Hampshire Bank (1987-1993). The latter had renovated the building in 1987 as a temporary structure to be replaced by a 14-storey high-rise. Maine Historical Society acquired the building in 1996, for its expansion, creating a one-acre history campus.
